A Surgeon & a Designer

This week I find myself in a bit of a pickle - going through the process of selecting a surgeon for an operation on my ruptured achilles... yes...I forgot that I am 46 and not 26 and went a little too hard at my daughter's netball training, yikes I am paying for it now!

This decision making process got me thinking of the analogy of picking the right surgeon versus the right interior designer for your home. There are actually many of the same key factors considered for both decisions!

  • We did some research and as to who we think will be best

  • We also consulted a sports surgeon we know and got his recommendation, which we value and trust immensely.

  • We obviously want an experienced surgeon with great final and long term results.

  • Time is also a factor, as I would like to get it done sooner rather than later.

  • Cost is also a consideration, but it is the quality long term outcome that is more important to me- I want it done properly and the best outcome possible for long term health and happiness.

  • A high level of service and first impressions are also important - do their team communicate well and clarify my questions and concerns? Do they explain the surgery in documents and terms I understand - preparation time, surgery, recovery and rehab - is the process clear and what the deliverables are for the investment?

At the end of the day, we have chosen someone we can trust, who is professional, experienced and has a good reputation in his field. Cost was well down the list in terms of deciding factors.

In essence, the key factors we assessed are in fact many of the same factors that our clients consider when selecting us for their home project.

Deciding who to engage for what is likely your biggest financial asset; your home, is a huge decision and rightly so.

Finding someone that you really connect with, who has similar values and one you can trust to transform your home and potentially your way of living, is probably one of the biggest decisions you will make.

Granted, we are not saving lives, but through our projects, Hygge Design demonstrate the powerful force good design can have in boosting our physical and emotional well-being.

Our holistic approach is quite unique, this is in part due to our alignment with Danish design and values, that balance function and form.

We are so passionate about design 'feeling' as good as it looks and that is our point of difference that we stand by.

So whilst I won't be super mobile for meetings the next few weeks, I am fortunate to have Agi to take the ropes and thankfully, most of our design work is computer based, so I can tap away in my chair, which means no huge changes for our workload.

The positives I've already noticed are that the ideas are bubbling even more than usual with a little more time to think and reflect. Now that I can't cook or clean, I will also have plenty of extra time to read my 579 design books! There is always a silver lining :-)

Have any 'must watch' TV series recommendations or books for me? I'd love to hear them, send them through, that would be awesome, thank you!

Also super grateful for the well designed bathroom, easily accessible for injured souls like me.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead - enjoy the 19 degrees forecast for Sunday!
