Denmark Design Trip
We are back on deck in the studio, after a busy but super inspiring 2 weeks in Denmark.
30 years ago, I first fell in love with Denmark and today, it still holds a huge part of my heart and my way of living here in Australia. It was a deeply reflective trip - how grateful I am for the path that my Danish connection has taken me. In amongst design events, I was also able to see my friends and family, explore art galleries, nature and devour lots of their delicious food!
Ferm Living, Copenhagen Denmark
Design and Denmark have a long history - internationally renowned for its quality and holistic approach, the Danes own more design objects than any other population.
Be it at home, in the workplace or in the public arena, Danes have come to expect having quality objects around them.
For Danes, good design improves quality of life for all - that dining table pendant - it is placed at the right height and light temperature to encourage better connection and conversation between loved ones. That timber kitchen with natural stone - it was designed to better connect to nature and all the senses, especially when the weather may be miserable outside.
So whilst we noticed trends in colours, materials and furniture styles, we dug a lot deeper into the layers of what we believe is the heart of our designs - designing for people.
Our unique way of designing for people and incorporating Danish design principles, is what makes our work here at Hygge Design so unique. It's intentional, emotional and designed for living life to the fullest.
There is no doubt in my mind why Copenhagen just took out the 'most livable city' award for 2025 -
• designing with intention and for people - with consideration for the environment at the forefront of their designs
• free education and health
• healthy work/life balance
• equal opportunity amongst the nation - no real hierarchy evident
• sustainable practices (they have 9 bins!)
• celebrating the little moments with intentional living (hygge)
• a huge focus on living life in ways that happiness and well-being
During my visit, I met so many wonderful people and feel grateful that I could sit down over a cuppa and dive deeper into their way of thinking in terms of design and well-being. To speak Danish fluently and converse in a more meaningful way, is truly a gift.
In the next few weeks, we will be unpacking our thoughts and visuals from our trip in our newsletters.
We will also be welcoming you to the studio in July, where we will turn the studio into a cosy version of the 3 Days of Design event, where you can see, touch and explore our insights.
Stay tuned for further info, limited tickets available.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
